Know-U

INSTRUCTIONS

 

GOAL

Be the first player to play all your cards while sharing reflections and using Action Cards.

SETUP

  1. Shuffle all cards thoroughly.

  2. Deal 7 cards to each player.

  3. Place the remaining cards face down in the center to form a draw pile.

  4. Turn the top card face up to start the discard pile. If the first card is an Action Card, set it aside and flip a new card until a numbered color card is revealed.

  5. The player to the left of the dealer begins. Play continues clockwise.

 

CARD TYPES

Reflection Cards contain prompts that players answer out loud.
Action Cards change gameplay and are followed immediately.

HOW TO PLAY

On your turn:

  • Play one card that matches the color, number, or action shown on the top card of the discard pile.

  • If you play a numbered color card, answer the prompt for that color out loud.

  • If you play an Action Card, follow its instructions immediately.

  • If you cannot play a card, draw one card from the draw pile.

    • If the drawn card can be played, you may play it immediately.

    • If not, your turn ends.

  • The first player to play their last card wins.

 

NUMBERED COLOR CARDS - FEELINGS & COPING SKILLS

Numbered color cards are played by matching color or number. When you play one, complete the reflection prompt in the speech bubble aloud.

 

Yellow — Feeling Signals

Prompt: Describe a time your body gave you this feeling signal.

Red — Personal Feelings

Prompt: Describe a time you felt this emotion.

Green — Observing Others

Prompt: Describe a time you could tell someone else felt this way.

 

Blue — Coping Skills

Prompt: Describe a time you used—or could try—this coping skill.

 

Keep responses brief but thoughtful—conversation is part of the game.

ACTION CARDS

Action Cards may be played if they match the current color or the same action type.  Only the most recently played Action Card takes effect.  Action effects do not stack.  Bonus Play does not chain—only one extra card may be played per turn.

IMPORTANT RULES:

  • One card left: Say “Know-U!” If another player catches you before your next turn, draw 1 card.

  • Draw pile empty: Shuffle the discard pile (leave the top card) for a new draw pile.

  • In 2-player games, Change Direction acts as Pause Turn.

Change Direction - Play continues in the opposite direction.

 

Pause Turn - The next player misses their turn.

Choice - The next player chooses one:

• Draw 2 cards. They may then play one card if possible. Their turn then ends.

• Pause their turn

Trade Hands - Choose one player and trade hands with them.

This card may not be played if a player has one card remaining and has already called “Know-U!”

Bonus Play - Play one extra card of the same color.

• If the extra card is an Action Card, its effect still applies.

Color Change - Choose the new color of play.

Color Change & Choice - Choose the new color.  Then the next player chooses one:

• Draw 2 cards. They may then play one card if possible. Their turn then ends.

• Pause their turn
